Extreme Locations

Lenny Henry's Atlantic Adventure - Tiger Aspect Productions

2 x 50' for BBC1

Format: Digi-Beta / DVCAM

Approximately 12 different mini cameras were rigged onto the 'Nootka' for this trip across the Atlantic. Manned by Lenny Henry and Tony Bulimore, the boat sailed from Plymouth to Jamaica, a Digi-Beta unit was also present, with a support boat for back up. This proved to be an extremely complicated rig which involved weather proof housings, microwave links and purpose built recording equipment.

Ian Wright Surviving the Kalahari - Tiger Aspect Productions

1 x 50' for BBC1

Format: Digi-Beta / DVCAM

Putting a Digi unit into the desert posed many problems. Dust proofing the equipment, ensuring the kit worked in extreme heat and getting the kit safely to the location were just some of our concerns. The Kalahari is often said to be one of the most inhospitable places on earth and the crew were pushed to their limits.

Jim Davidson in Iraq - BBC Entertainment

1 x 50' for BBC1

Format: Digi-Beta / DVCAM

The dangers of shooting in a war zone gave us cause for concern, however our main thoughts were directed at kit issues. A Digi-Beta and PD150 were used to cover this trip into Iraqi, a country where time and a problem free shoot were of the essence. A compact Kit was also essential and proved very important for ease of transport.

Jack Dee sent to Siberia - Tiger Aspect Productions

1 x 60' for BBC1

Format: Digi-Beta / DVCAM

Keeping our equipment at an operational temperature was the main concern on this project. Polar Jackets, Heated Bags and Thermal Covers were all used in maintaining the kit. Jack Dee used a Sony PD150 to record a visual diary, the DV cameras performed excellently and maintained good recordings throughout.

Jim Davidson in the Falklands - BBC Entertainment

1 x 50' for BBC1

Format: Digi-Beta

Getting the crew and kit to the Falklands was made easy by good planninig and an RAF Transporter. Though careful packing and limiting the equipment to just what was necessary we enabled the crew to have everything they needed at a moments notice. The conditions, once on the Islands, proved less harsh than first thought, the only problems the crew had were amusing themselves on the 18 hour flight.
