Rock 'n' Chips Written by Only Fools And Horses creator John Sullivan, this is a new BBC One 90-minute comedy drama that focuses on the earlier years of Peckham's most famous family, the Trotters. There's also a chance to see the teenage incarnations of some familiar faces including Boycie, Trigger, Denzil, Roy Slater and Jumbo Mills. The Trotter family hasn't yet moved into their flat in Nelson Mandela House, but there'll be some recognisable settings such as the mean streets of Peckham and the Nag's Head circa-1960. Dewi Humphries directed John Sorapure and his camera team on this two camera (Sony F900R) shoot on location and at Pinewood studios. Doug Goddard gaffered the lighting while Joe Smythe was key grip. The much-anticipated programme aired in a prime spot earlier this year to 7.5 million viewers! The Nation awaits a Series!
Bellamy's People This new BBC2 show sees phone-in host character Gary Bellamy moving out of the Down the Line radio studio and on to the street in a bid to meet real people, played by Paul Whitehouse and Charlie Higson, and elicit their views on topics ranging from crime and religion to class and culture. Shot two camera on Digital Betacam, DOP Mark Bond, with fellow DOPs Jeremy Hewson and Roy Estabrook stepping in on Operating duties, faced a huge challenge; largely improvised, the show was shot documentary style, but with lighting required to give the most natural, unlit, look. With takes lasting up to 30 minutes, they were required to use their real documentary skills to the maximum, whilst maintaining the quality demanded my a major BBC primetime show. And on the Red Button 'making of' show you can see our Blue Planet crew in action - stars of the small screen!
Round Ireland With A Fridge. The cinema version of Tony Hawkes' bestseller saw DOP John Sorapure taking to the road with his team to set about doing the tale filmic justice. Shooting on the Sony F900R Cine Alta HD camcorder, John used Zeiss 35mm Prime lenses and Pro35 adapter to give each scene the look and feel of 35mm film, but at a fraction of the budget. Directed by Ed Bye and produced by Fridge D'or Films, the movie is now finished and should be at a cinema near you in 2010!
