Christmas Specials - Christmas provided a bumper time for Blue Planet.  This year we were involved in many superb Christmas offerings.  The Catherine Tate and Dead Ringers Christmas Specials were both shown on BBC2, both gaining good reviews.   John Sorapure was DOP on both these programs, he was assisted, on Catherine Tate, by Geraint Owen and Ian Pearce and on Dead Ringers by Ian Pearce, while Jackson Jessop oversaw the hidden camera work.  BBC1 provided us with the French and Saunders Christmas Special, Pete Rowe was DOP with Roy Estabrook operating second camera.   Alastair Widgery was sound recordist and was assisted by Ross Brander.  Camera assistants were Alan Buckley and Matt Wicks.   Pete Rowe was also DOP on Avid Merrion's XXXmas Special and The Avid Merrion Xmas Message.  On these Channel 4 specials, Pete was assisted by Alan Buckley, with sound being recorded by Joe Walters.

Man Stroke Woman - This new comedy sketch show has reached BBC3 and brought with it many rave reviews.  Created by the producers of The Office, Man Stroke Woman looks at the trials and tribulations of thirty something's growing up in our modern society.   Its cast includes, Nick Love (Shaun of the Dead and Spaced), Nick Burns (Nathan Barley) and Daisy Haggard (Green Wing).  Mike George was DOP, he was assisted by Matt Wicks.

Titty Bang Bang - New comedy sketch show TittyBangBang (Pett Productions) started on BBC3 this week, directed by Angie De Chastelai Smith, it forms part of the channels impressive Autumn/Winter schedule.  Full of surreal characters, living in their own peculiar worlds, it stars Lucy Montgomery who plays most of the characters, many of whom required extensive prosthetics.   The show was produced by Bob Mortimer and Lisa Clark.  John Record was DOP and he was assisted by Geraint Owen and Matt Wicks.

The Message - Written, produced, directed and staring Johnny Daukes, The Message comes to BBC3 this spring.  Imagine a TV channel of the future where presentation is at the wheel and content is bound and gagged in the back.  This 6 part comedy series was shot by Paul Kirsop and John Sorapure and features many well loved characters from it's original incarnation, "Radio 9" currently being broadcast on Radio 4.

Current Affairs with a Twist - The Late Edition hosted by Marcus Brigstocke, brings a mix of scripted and unscripted material to BBC4, the new series starting on Thursday 12th Jan.   The Comic Side of Seven Days ran before Christmas on BBC3, this programme looked at topical news issues in a very comic way.  BPTV crew working on The Late Edition were, Will Jacob, Jamie Carney and Roy Estabrook in the camera department and AJ Butterworth, Mario Sierra, Renalto Ferrari and Stuart Piggott on sound.   The Comic Side of Seven Days was shot by Roy Estabrook with sound being recorded by Stuart Piggott.

Promos - Blue Planet regular Jeremy Hewson has recently completed work on the promo for the new Texas single "Sleep".   Shot on 35mm, the video features Peter Kaye, who also directed and Sharleen Spliteri in various parody's of well known screen moments.  An Officer and a Gentleman, Ghost and Lionel Ritchie's "Hello" are among those used.  Jeremy very much enjoyed working with Peter, who he met whilst shooting sections of the "Road to Amarillo" video.  The video is available to watch on the web and the single was released on the 8th Jan.

The Children In Need Telethon 2005 took place on 18th November 2005 with Blue Planet shooting the title sequence.   This year the charity appeal lost none of its esteem pulling in very impressive viewing figures.   John Sorapure shot the sequence with Stuart Hall on sound.

Facing The Truth - During November Blue Planet headed out to Belfast to shoot Facing The Truth for BBC NI.  The programme sees Desmond Tutu moderating discussion between victims of terrorist action and people involved in terrorist activities themselves.  The show is scheduled to air in the spring.   DOP on this project was Roy Estabrook, operators were Craig Loveridge, Will Jacob, Dave McCormick and Mark BondMatt Lygo oversaw sound, he was assisted by Stuart Piggott.  Camera assistant was Ian Chisholm.

DVD Extras - This winter, Blue Planet has worked on several DVD projects for our American client, New Wave Entertainment.   Working mainly on High Def, we provided directors and also production personnel alongside our own technical crew.  Projects we have been involved with include, Superman (2006), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the re-release of The Dirty Dozen and Harry Potter - The Goblet of Fire.

Working on Superman and The Dirty Dozen were Tom Wright on camera with David Ferguson on sound.   Charlie and the Chocolate Factory / Tim Burton Directors Commentary was lit and shot by John Sorapure with sound recorded by Alastair Widgery.   The Harry Potter DVD Extras shoot was a huge project which featured John Sorapure as DOP, operators were Roy Estabrook, Craig Loveridge, Mike Parker and Mark Bond, assistants on the day were Ian Pearce and Alistair Upcraft.   Sound was recorded by Keith Branch, he was assisted by Stuart Piggott, Simon Bishop and Paul Zanders.
